This peaceful 'oasis of delight' comprises fifteen acres of landscaped gardens incorporating many rare species. The four glasshouses take the visitor through different climates from the tropical rainforest, with its steamy heat and exotic plants, to the palms, tree ferns and orchids of the Sub-tropical House, then the lush colours and fragrances of the Mediterranean House and finally to the hot dry desert conditions of the Arid House with its stunning collection of cacti. Outside, as well as the colourful bedding on the Loudon Terrace, there are the Rhododendron, Azalea and Woodland walks, Rose Garden, Rock Garden and Pool, Lawn Aviaries and Growing Schools Garden. The National Bonsai Collection is houses in the Japanese Garden. There is a children's adventure playground, plant centre, gift shop and refreshment pavilion. In the summer there is live theatre on the Main Lawn and every weekend live music from the Victorian Bandstand.
