Child
Large medieval church with churchyard in centre of Much Wenlock ancient market town. High and light nave, of white sandstone, with parapets and lead-covered roofs. Site of Nun's Church, St Milburga's Abbey, AD 680. Rebuilt 1110 AD. Norman nave, with fine chancel arch. Ornamented west front partially obscured by later tower. South Aisle and Lady Chapel (13thC). South porch with priest's dwelling above (14thC). Extensively restored in 1853. Lady Chapel refurbished 1973. Contains town memorial to William Penny Brookes, contributor to rebirth of Olympic Games.
Directions
By Road
From the M54: A464 then left for A442 (Kidderminster). This road becomes A4169. Take the A4169 to Much Wenlock. For coach parking turn into Station Road; for car parking carry on to the A458, then left into St Mary's Lane then left again. Possible on street parking near church.
By Public Transport
on the Bridgnorth to Shrewsbury bus route. Buses daily but not frequent.
