One of the most celebrated Hotels in England, The Barceló Lygon Arms (pronounced Liggon) has been welcoming travellers to the Cotswolds since the 16th Century and today its charm is as pronounced as ever while complemented by the best of modern comfort.

This Cotswolds hotel has undergone an impressive restoration programme, headed up by designer Stephan Oberwegner of London-based Max Bentheim Design, to revitalise bedrooms and public areas that date back to the sixteenth century. Barceló The Lygon Arms has 78 rooms including 7 stunning Suites, some dating back to 1532, half of our bedrooms are in the main house and the other half are in Garden and Orchard Wings.

Original features such as the timber & flagstone floors, wood panelling, doors, architraves, dados and all stone mullions have been retained and refurbished, and the architectural features are dramatically lit. Despite its location at the heart of the village of Broadway, the Lygon also has three acres of grounds that include lawns, flower gardens, croquet, and floodlit tennis courts.

Frequented by the rich and famous for centuries the Lygon has regularly welcomed stars of stage, screen and music and its visitors book dating back to 1911 is considered to be an extremely rare collection of some of the worlds most sought after signatures. Henry Ford’s stay at the Lygon in April 1928 is a particular highlight, his signature still recognisable as the badge that appears on millions cars throughout the world.

With Stratford Upon Avon to the north and Oxford to the south, the Cotswolds provide great opportunities for outdoor activities. Bicycle hire can be arranged and horse riding is a favourite pastime. Nearby there is also golf, carriage riding, clay pigeon shooting, archery, trout fishing and gliding, helicopter rides and hot-air ballooning available. The hotel is ideally located near Cheltenham Racecourse and is the perfect base from which to explore the Cotswolds. Locally there are annual events to enjoy such as Upton Folk Festival, Three Counties Show, Cheltenham Gold Cup, Malvern Spring Gardening Show, and Worcester Festival.
