To mark the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, The King’s Singers have created a lively programme of secular music from the reigns of some of the Queen’s more colourful forebears, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and Victoria. Music played an important role in all 16th Century courts, and musical puzzles and rounds were very popular during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The development of the madrigal form in Italy, soon copied around Europe, provided a more sophisticated musical entertainment. During the reign of Queen Victoria the popularity of part songs grew, with composers finding inspiration in all aspects of life from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Start time: 2:30pm

Three Choirs Festival runs between 21st to 28th July 2012.
