A lecture on the early history of the Three Choirs Festival by the Rev'd Stephen Williams. When did the Festival really start? Was it the late 17th century or the early 18th century, and can this debate be finally resolved?

Rev'd Williams, the Vicar of Harlington who has been attending the Three Choirs Festival since 1964, will look at the geographical, cultural and ecclesiastical reasons why a musical fellowship built up in the Welsh Marches. Taking evidence from the financial accounts of the three cathedrals, Stephen will plot the likely pattern of mutual get-togethers that provided the basis for the final three-yearly pattern that exists by 1715, which is a detective story in itself!

Starting Time: 5pm

Festival runs between 21st to 28th July 2012.
