Cambridge Touring Theatre will bring myth and magic to Weston Park this summer with its lively outdoor production of The Sword in the Stone on Thursday 26th July. Based on the age-old stories of King Arthur and his wise teacher, Merlin (as told by T H White and Walt Disney), this brand new version includes songs, dances, and interactive fun, all presented by a cast bursting with energy and enthusiasm.

The story begins as Merlin searches for a new pupil. He chooses a local boy named Wart and they set off for the Tournament in London. On the way Wart learns how to be just and wise. When they arrive, the biggest competition at the Tournament is the Sword in the Stone pulling contest but who will win and become ruler of England?

Cambridge Touring Theatre has been touring professionally all over Britain since 2000. Every performance features 6 actors, a musician and a colourful stage which turns magically into medieval caravans, carts and courts. The performers, all trained actors with experience in family events – play with the original story and bring it to life for children of today. They sing, they dance, they steal sandwiches and even spray the audience with water! In short they lose no opportunity to delight and entertain all ages.

For children who want to get more involved, there will be a 45 minute workshop before the performance where children can explore the story of The Sword in the Stone, take part in their own knightly adventures and meet some of the characters from the play.

Rosie Humphreys from Cambridge Touring Theatre says “My own love of theatre began by seeing outdoor touring companies playing classic stories in beautiful settings. Add a picnic and a rug and there’s no better way to spend a summer’s evening.”

Tickets: Adults £15.00, Family (2+2) £40.00, Children (3-14 years) £10.00. Workshop £2 per child. Under 3’s free. Box Office: 01952 852100 or book on-line by visiting
