St George fights the dragon in The Commandery mummers play

18 – 23 April 2017

The tale of Saint George and the Dragon will be told with gusto at The Commandery, with a weekend of merry mummer's plays and family entertainment.

The Commandery will be cheerfully decorated to celebrate the much-loved story of England's patron saint with a historic atmosphere created by a living history camp in the gardens with Worcester Militia, and spectators will be able to see Saint George fight the fearsome dragon.

During the weekend, young knights will be able to attend Squire School to test their skills with a sword and train to become a knight's apprentice.

There will be opportunities to meet the fiery dragon, make a mask and join in with the entertainment, and follow the trails to discover how many times this legendary saint has appeared throughout history.

During the second week of the Easter holidays there will also be hands-on archery workshops and make-your-own arrow activities in The Commandery gardens.

"Commandery Coffee", a new café will be open, serving great quality local coffee, loose leaf teas and delicious homemade food, next to the scenic canal-side gardens.

Sarah Bourne, events manager at The Commandery, says: " Saint George's Weekend was riotously fun for families last year, with a great combination of hands-on history and an opportunity to play in the spacious gardens.

This year it will be a hive of activity, with creative crafts and opportunities to dress up and get involved with a great traditional celebration."
