Going big on bugs!

10th August 2017

Going big on bugs! - Discover the weird and wonderful world of bugs at DZG this week.

We’re celebrating BIAZA’s Big Bug Bonanza with a variety of creepy crawly themed activities.

Go on a bug hunt around the 40-acre zoo site and learn some fun facts along the way, as well as getting close to some invertebrates during handling sessions in the new farm barn between 12 – 12.45pm and 2.15 – 4.30pm with Conservation Officer, Chris Leeson, where there’ll also be bug-themed arts and crafts.

Chris, pictured right, will also be demonstrating how visitors can make moth traps at home and they’ll be a chance to see some moths up close.

We’ll also be welcoming the RSPB on site from Friday until Sunday, who will be doing invertebrate themed activities with young visitors, including meadow sweeping and pitfall traps on the bank at the rear of the Queen Mary Restaurant.

They’ll be located by Lion Ridge and will be advertising their activity times at the stand.

DZG Conservation Officer, Chris Leeson, said: “There are more than 24,000 species of insect living in the United Kingdom and hundreds can be found in our own gardens.

“They’re fascinating creatures and we’re looking forward to helping raise awareness of them this week.”
