Macbeth at Blists Hill Open Air

23rd May 2011

Oddsocks theatre company will once again be bringing live entertainment to the Ironbridge Gorge this summer with their own inspired interpretation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Macbeth. The outdoor performance will take place on The Green at Blists Hill Victorian Town on Saturday, 23rd July.

Part of Oddsocks’ nationwide tour (www.oddsocks.co.uk), the performance is one of several events taking place across the West Midlands to celebrate the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad Open Weekend.

Shakespeare's darkest of dark tragedies will be given the Oddsocks treatment and as they can make a comedy out of anything, be prepared for spine tingling, eye popping, rib tickling hilarity. Expect this battle against good and evil to be a physically exciting spectacle based on the Bard's original text, of course, complete with power hungry rulers, mad wives, sword fights, wandering stilted witches, walking trees, blood, wigs, music, dancing and lots of audience participation.

Bring rugs or low back chairs and a picnic but no barbecues or gazebos please; light refreshments will be available from The Forest Glen before the performance and during the interval. Gates open at 6pm before the show begins at 7pm.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from Blists Hill Victorian Town entrance shop or Ironbridge Visitor Information Centre priced at £11 for adults and £8 for concessions (plus £2 p&p if posted from the Information Centre). They will also be available on the gate at the event, subject to availability; there are no reserved areas.

For further information call 01952 433 424 or visit www.ironbridge.org.uk. The Gorge is easily reached via the M6 and M54 motorways exiting at Telford (M54 junction 4 or 6).
