Rhododendron Walk at Weston Park

14th May 2012

Weston Park

Head Gardener Martin Gee will lead the annual Rhododendron Walk at Weston Park, the magnificent stately home on the Shropshire / Staffordshire border on Sunday 20th May.

The stunning avenues of Rhododendrons and Azaleas were created by the 4th Countess of Bradford in the early 20th century when she introduced these fashionable hybrids to Weston following visits to the Chelsea Flower Show.

Laid out in Temple Wood, the walks she created were designed for the family to use and for impressing guests visiting the House.  At this time of year both Temple Wood and Shrewsbury Walk are a riot of colour and perfume, with the plants displaying vibrant purples, reds and mauves and pinks.

Martin will talk about the history of Rhododendron as well as more in depth detail on how and why these avenues were created.

Following the walk a delicious roast lunch will be served in the Granary Grill.

The Rhododendron Walk starts at 10.30am on Sunday 20th May and costs: Adults £5.00, Children £3.00 and Seniors £4.50.  Weston Park Annual Pass Holders receive 50% off.  Admission is payable on the day in the Granary Farm Shop.

Sunday Lunch is served in the Granary Grill from 12 noon – 4pm.  Two courses £12.50, three-courses £17.00.
