Knight Training For Heroic Dads at Kenilworth
14th June 2012
For most young people, their father is their ultimate hero – strong, brave and always there to protect them – and this Father’s Day (Sunday 17 June 2012), dads can gain even more ‘hero points’ by taking part in Kenilworth Castle’s Knight School for Dads!
“Our Knight Schools are always popular with children, but you usually see the dads stood at the side looking enviously at the armour and weaponry on display, and you can just tell that they are itching to have a go and fulfil their childhood fantasies as a swashbuckling knight,” comments Kenilworth Castle’s site manager, Holly Woodward. “Our Father’s Day event gives them a chance to do just that, training alongside their children under the watchful eye of our master tutor!”
The day will see dads learning some of the basic skills that any knight would have to learn if they were to ensure success on the medieval battlefield, from how to control a sword and make the most successful attacks, to defensive shield usage.
The Knight School for Father’s Day is part of Kenilworth Castle’s Medieval Season, which will see a host of knights, ladies, squires and commoners return to the site to give visitors a taste of life in Kenilworth Castle’s heyday. The next event – and one of the year’s highlights – is a Grand Medieval Joust on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 July.
