Shrewsbury Show Garden

This year’s 125th Shrewsbury Flower Show on 10th and 11th August will showcase the greatest in garden design and planting with all the latest ideas on display and there is still time to book your show garden space.

This is a great opportunity for companies, organisations, professionals, amateurs or individual enthusiasts to demonstrate their creative abilities and aptitude for garden design.

No matter how old or young, the fruits of your labour can be displayed and rewarded as a rich array of inspirational classic and contemporary designs are sure to be highlighted in the show garden category.

School children from Condover School are leading the way with their own Raindrop to Ocean themed garden which is already underway and aims to reflect the school’s class names and the pupils’ own desire to grow and learn.

Over 100 school pupils aged between four and 11 are participating in the garden project led by teacher, Jayne Tant, which will focus on a circular design featuring willow sculptures, perennials, grasses, herbs wherever possible reflected in the school colours of burgundy and gold.

Jayne commented: “We run a gardening club at the school and all the children have enthusiastically injected ideas in to the show project. There was an overwhelming response to the education and nurturing focus of the design and the circular planting concept reflects the safety of the school environment as a place of learning.

“We are hoping to attract sponsors to help fund the garden planting project and children have already written to a number of local companies and organisations. If any companies are interested in supporting us, I would ask them to get in touch as soon as possible.”

From the formal to the wild and extraordinary, the show gardens offer visitors a source of garden design inspiration and vision and offer the best in planting and structural innovation.

The show gardens will be situated outside the marquee and will be based on a courtyard theme, with the display area set at 4m x 4m.

The garden competitions are open to anyone who has a passion for gardens. For an entry form call 01743 234050 or write to The Secretary, Quarry Lodge, Shrewsbury, SY1 1RN.

Now in its 125th year, Shrewsbury Flower Show will this year feature, alongside the best in garden design and planting, demonstrations, tips from TV gardener, Chris Beardshaw and other horticultural experts and celebrity TV chef, James Martin will be presenting cookery master classes in the Marches Food Hall. In addition, the Severn Marquee will house one of the largest wine and honey selections in the country.
