Focus on ‘Food Glorious Food’ at this year’s Shrewsbury Flower Show
4th July 2012

Great taste and natural ingredients are the main focus in the Marches Food Hall at this year’s 125th Shrewsbury Flower Show on 10th & 11th August.
British producers are headlining a variety of culinary delicacies from fine cheeses, home produced sausages and cakes and confectionery to tasty tipples designed to test the taste-buds of the show’s gastronomic visitors.
For the first time, Women’s Institute Foods (WI Foods) will be offering their wares in the Marches Food Hall. WI Foods has just launched as a charity venture to raise funds for Women’s Institute and visitors can discover first-hand how one of the finest traditions in British cooking and baking has transformed traditional values and recipes into a timeless range of food products for consumers. The WI itself will also be returning to the show, with a dedicated area near the Severn and Dingle marquee.
The philosophy behind the WI Foods brand mirrors ‘the closest thing to homemade’ ethos that provided a backbone to local WI groups with jams, chutney, flour and a collection of products sourced from the WI archives that combine great taste and natural ingredients in the tradition of proper home cooking.
Visitors to the show will experience these and the finest produce Britain has to offer with top producers showcasing their products and opportunities to ‘taste before you buy’ along the way.
Peter Road-Knight, Secretary of the Shropshire Horticultural Society, commented: “The Marches Food Hall is always a popular destination for show visitors with emphasis placed on top ingredients. The new WI Foods stand highlights what is best in British cuisine and aims to encourage home baking and bring wholesome food to the public based on tried and trusted WI recipes.”
To complement the fine food focus, celebrity TV chef, James Martin will be presenting cookery master classes in the Marches Food Hall, whilst the Severn marquee will house one of the largest wine and honey selections in the country.
