Show stopping finale at Cosford’s Open Air Prom
10th July 2012
An open air prom will be staged at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford later this month raising money for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. Members of the public are invited to attend the event which will feature an orchestra, flying display and fireworks spectacular, plus much more - raising money for the RAF’s leading welfare charity.
Taking place on Saturday 21st July, this fun filled evening of music and entertainment will take place outside on the Museum grounds under the wings of the Hercules. A giant stage will be erected to accommodate The Wessex Concert Orchestra with Soprano who will perform a two hour concert for guests who are encouraged to join in the spirit of things and sing along to some well known numbers.
A main highlight on the evening will be a full flying display from a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire scheduled for 8.45 p.m. (weather permitting). Other activities keeping the whole family entertained include a parachute display from Silver Stars Parachute Display Team which will see its members jump from an aircraft and fly in formation before landing on the airfield and later attending the event and meeting with guests. A spectacular fireworks display will conclude the evening’s events at 11.00pm
In addition to all this there will be performances from a Barber Shop Quartet, the Soul Phoenix Band and a concert violinist. The RAF Benevolent Fund team will also be there on the night with their display unit speaking with guests and promoting the great work they do. Plus, refreshments will be available all evening including a fully licensed bar and the locally based Cider House who are also showing their support for this charity event.
Last year’s event attracted over 500 guests and organisers are hoping to double this number at this year’s prom. This is an outdoor event and attendees are welcome to bring along their own picnic and refreshments. Camping chairs and blankets are highly recommended so guests can sit back and enjoy the show.
The RAF Benevolent Fund has been supporting the RAF family since 1919. They are there, through thick and thin, to support RAF personnel and their families, while they are serving in the RAF and when they leave, whenever assistance is required.
Anyone wishing to attend the event can purchase tickets from the Museum or, for those serving at RAF Cosford only, via the website
www.cosfordprom.co.uk. Tickets are priced at just £15 for adults and children under 16 are free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Gates open at 5.30pm with music starting at 6.15pm and the fun continues late into the night.
