A children’s nursery at Hatton Green, which has been run from an outbuilding in the Ferncumbe School yard for the last 10 years, has moved to larger premises.

In partnership with the Hatton Farm Estate, the Hopes and Dreams Nursery has relocated to a much larger unit on the Nunhold Business Park, which is just one mile away. It will also change its name to the Hatton World Children’s Nursery.

On its former site the nursery had been limited to caring for 16 children, but the new premises will now permit places for as many as 45 children up to the age of five. Doors opened on July 2.

The relocation was made necessary by Ferncumbe School’s plan to demolish the old school buildings to make way for an extended playground.

The new premises are being provided by the Hatton Farm Estate, and are a five-minute walk from Hatton Farm Village where there they can use all the facilities, including the soft play area and the farmyard animals.

Alison Deere, owner-manager of the nursery, said: “We are very excited with the new opportunities the bigger building will allow.

“We have one big open plan area, which we have divided up into different spaces for the children of different ages. So there is a sleeping space with cots for the smallest children, with separate play areas for the older ones, but our nursery care team will be able to see the whole space all the time to ensure constant observation.

“It is a big reassurance for parents to know that the owner of the business works there as well, rather than employing a manager, like some nurseries do,” she said.

The nursery will take on more staff as the numbers of children grow.

Carron Smith, marketing manager at Hatton Farm Village, said “We’re delighted to be able to provide premises for the nursery so close to the Farm Village facilities as it will give the children easier access to our soft play area and the farm animals. Part of the arrangement is that nursery children will be able to have open access to these facilities whenever the supervisors want to bring them in.”
